Masons have nothing to hide — area leader

Ken Pierce has a handshake that’s firm, business-like–and not at all secret.
Pierce, district deputy grandmaster for the Algoma East Ma-sons, welcomes any opportunity to talk about the supposedly shadowy society that has enjoyed renewed attention recently with the publication last Tuesday of Dan Brown’s new thriller,The Lost Symbol.
Any publicity, as they say, is good publicity.
“We have nothing to hide,” said Elliot Lake-based Pierce, who visited one of Sault Ste. Marie’s three masonic temples Saturday to induct new officers into the fold. Read more….

Best-selling author Dan Brown’s latest novel, The Lost Symbol, draws heavily on the lore and mystique of the Freemasons. A visit to one of the locations in the novel, a prominent Masonic building in Washington, D.C., serves as an introduction to the history of the once feared and even reviled secret society.
The House of the Temple, the headquarters of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in the Southern Jurisdiction of the United States, is an impressive and dignified edifice on Washington’s 16th Street. The design was inspired by the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, in Turkey. A couple of sphinxes on huge pedestals flank the steps. Read more….
Fenty Takes Steps against Masonic Lodge in Northeast
As expected, Mayor Adrian M. Fenty (D) Thursday announced steps the city is taking to shut down activities at the Masonic lodge in Ward 5 that residents and city officials say are leading to violence and other disturbances in the Woodridge neighborhood.
Fenty postponed his announcement to Thursday after a scheduling conflict Tuesday. Read more….
Man accused of burning Bible in place of worship
TEMPLE TERRACE, FL — A Temple Terrace man is behind bars, accused of breaking into a Masonic Lodge and setting fire to a Bible.
According to police spokesman Mike Dunn, “Temple Terrace Police responded to an alarm at the Masonic Lodge, 11807 N 56th St, Temple Terrace. They discovered a freshly broken out window; entered the lodge and arrested Tod Redman Stewart …who was still inside.” Read more….
